Health Canada recently shared that nearly 100 substances have pre-emptively been approved to have the in-feed route of administration added to their profile on the veterinary health product (VHP) List of Permitted Substances following successful Short Substance Applications (SSAs). If you are a company anticipating to notify a VHP to sell for incorporation into livestock feeds, get a head start by submitting your SSAs.

This announcement is for exporters of animal feed preparations not containing ingredients of animal origin to Taiwan. Animal feed preparations include preserved feed ingredients, calf milk replacer, piglet milk replacer, other stock feedstuff, poultry feedstuff, fish feedstuff, and other preparations for animal feeding.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recently released new guidance on How to determine when a plant-derived ingredient requires a feed pre-market assessment. This guidance supplements the existing Guidelines for the assessment of novel feeds: Plant sources and incorporates feedback received during a consultation held on the document last fall.

Rendering plants holding a permit under the authority of the Health of Animals Regulations have until June 14, 2024 to submit their online questionnaire for the Establishment-based Risk Assessment model for renderers (ERA-Renderer model). All permitted rendering plants should have received an email from the CFIA with information on how to complete and submit the questionnaire. The Ontario Agri Business Association (OABA) has been working on providing guidance to meet the reporting requirements outlined in Bill S-211, An Act to enact the Fighting Against Forced Labour and Child Labour in Supply Chains Act and to amend the Customs Tariff, and is graciously sharing these resources with ANAC members.

Following on from the consultation this past winter regarding the proposed development of a plastics registry, the federal government has recently published its Notice with respect to reporting of plastic resins and certain plastic products for the Federal Plastics Registry for 2024, 2025 and 2026 in Canada Gazette, Part I (CGI).
