On September 8, Canada’s counter-tariffs came into effect on $27.6 billion dollars of imported goods of American origin. Although select feed ingredients imported into Canada from the US are subject to these new tariffs, there is a remission process in place to avoid paying duties on affected feed inputs.

On September 8, President Trump issued five proclamations imposing further 50% tariffs on certain imported Canadian goods as well as a complete ban on the import of certain Canadian products as the next move in the Canada-United States (US) trade war. ANAC has reviewed the proclamations and associated annexes listing the impacted goods. Based on this review, we anticipate minimal direct impact for the feed industry. However, certain animal protein products, such as cheese, will be affected.

On August 25, the Canadian government announced new counter-tariffs on $27.6 billion of imports from the United States (US) to take effect at 12:01 a.m. on September 8, 2026. Finance Canada subsequently updated the list of impacted goods on August 26.

Finance Canada has provided information on the intended remission approach for the new counter-tariffs on imports from the United States (US) into Canada.

On August 25, the Canadian government released its list of American products which will be subject to tariffs ranging up to 50%. These new measures on $27.6 billion in products imported into Canada from the United States (US) will take effect as of 12:01 a.m., September 8, 2026 and will have impacts for the feed industry.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has negotiated a revised certificate for exports of porcine spray-dried blood intended for animal consumption to Brazil (HA2330). The certificate is available through your local CFIA office and can be used immediately.
