The feed industry plays an important role in helping prevent the spread of animal diseases. As wild birds begin their fall migration, the risk of new cases of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) increases across Canada. Now is a good time to review your biosecurity protocols and ensure you are aware of the measures required to reduce the risk of disease transmission.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recently updated the import requirements for plant-based livestock feed in respect of African Swine Fever (ASF).

On July 7, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) will host two virtual sessions to present findings from data collected on species affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) between January 2022 and April 2026.

Please be advised that a new outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been identified in Chile. Poultry, birds (including pet birds) and certain poultry products originating from the restricted zone are not permitted for import into Canada. Poultry products originating from outside the restricted zone may continue to be imported as usual.

With spring migration underway, it is important to maintain strong biosecurity protocols to reduce the risk of HPAI transmission.
