Reporting to the Federal Plastics Registry (FPR) on the plastic content of feed packaging and other agricultural plastic products is not currently required under phase 1.
Under the Feeds Regulations, 2024, many mixed feeds do not require registration. ANAC members are reminded that some mixed feeds that previously required registration may now be exempt (e.g. many imported mixed feeds brought in under a feeds licence). Companies may be able to reduce their regulatory burden by not registering or renewing feeds that are exempt from registration.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has changed the import requirements for single ingredient feeds (SIFs) listed in Part 1 of the Canadian Feed Ingredients Table (CFIT). Previously, importers were required to provide either a licence or registration number when importing these ingredients. The CFIA has now confirmed that these numbers will no longer be required at importation as Part 1 CFIT-listed SIFs are exempt from registration and do not require a livestock feeds licence solely for importation. This update will simplify the import process for Part 1 SIFs.

The Medication sequencing guideline for the management of drug carryover has been updated to include guidance on manufacturing feeds containing VHPs. Previously, some inspectors were requiring feed manufacturers to flush after manufacturing a feed containing a VHP as there was no guidance allowing for sequencing.

On July 23, the United States (US) announced that it is imposing new tariffs on multiple trading partners including Canada. Taking effect July 24, a 10% tariff will be applied to goods exported from Canada to the US that are not compliant with the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). Minimal impact is anticipated to the feed industry.
