The CFIA updated their Feed Label Verification Tool, which is used by CFIA inspectors to verify that the nutrient levels in feeds do not surpass the maximums as per the Tables of Maximum Nutrient Values for Feeds.

New US “forced labour” tariffs take effect today replacing Section 122 tariffs
On July 23, the United States (US) announced that it is imposing new tariffs on multiple trading partners including Canada. Taking effect July 24, a 10% tariff will be applied to goods exported from Canada to the US that are not compliant with the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). Minimal impact is anticipated to the feed industry.

Trump imposes 50% tariff on select Canadian goods
On July 20, President Trump signed three proclamations imposing a 50% tariff on select Canadian goods imported into the United States (US). This new tariff is scheduled to take effect August 19, 2026. This action was taken to address perceived discriminatory practices by Canada in the trade of motor vehicles, alcoholic beverages and dairy products.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is currently consulting on proposed regulatory changes that would impact what can be included in prohibited material (PM) used in livestock feeds.
