Call for nominations: Working group on effect of feed ingredients on animals

ANAC is seeking nominations from members interested in joining an expert working group (EWG) tasked with drafting guidance on the development of studies to obtain effectiveness data to support the authorization of claims relative to the effect of a feed ingredient on target animal species or classes of animals.

New bill introduced to expedite approvals of new feed products

On April 14, David Bexte, MP (Bow River, AB) introduced Private Member’s Bill C-273, Facilitating Agricultural Regulatory Modernization Actthat seeks to amend the federal Feeds Act, Fertilizer Act, Seeds Act and Pest Control Products Act and Food and Drug Act. The bill proposes provisional registration for new feed products, within 90 days, if the products have already been approved by two or more trusted jurisdictions (unless the product is found to not be in compliance with the Feeds Act and Regulations).

Be aware of ongoing recall – Copper (II) Sulfate Pentahydrate 

ANAC would like to ensure members are aware of the ongoing recall of contaminated lots of Copper (II) Sulfate Pentahydrate originating from China labeled as “Feed Grade”. The lots were contaminated with non-compliant concentrations of dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dl-PCBs) (collectively referred to as “dioxins”).

Updates proposed to health and safety regulations on noise in the workplace

The proposed Regulations Amending Certain Regulations Made Under the Canada Labour Code (Sound Levels) would implement new measures to protect the health and safety of employees in federally regulated workplaces (including feed mills) exposed to hazardous noise levels.

To participate in the consultation, comments can be entered directly into the online consultation document until April 20, 2026.
