Tariff remission has been expanded for US imports

The Canadian government is providing further relief from the payment of tariffs with the Order Amending the China Surtax Remission Order (2024) and the United States Surtax Remission Order (2025) (2025-1) (the “Remission Order”) which entered into force on October 15, 2025. The Remission Order provides an expansion of the United States Surtax Remission Order (2025), first implemented in April 2025, and amended in June 2025. Registration of exporting establishments – Brazil

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been informed that, as of July 8, 2025, all Canadian establishments that handle, fractionate, group, prepare or package products intended for animal feed including pet food and wish to export these products to Brazil must be registered with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA).

Canada removes many tariffs on US goods

Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the removal of retaliatory Canadian tariffs on goods from the United States (US) that are compliant with the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). This decision will take effect on September 1, 2025. Carney stated that this action will re-establish free trade on the vast majority of goods traded between Canada and the US.

Priority evaluations now available for registered feeds impacted by trade disruptions

On July 18, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) published a Notice to Industry allowing companies with registered single ingredient and/or mixed feeds currently made in the United States (US) to apply for priority evaluation to add another manufacturing site in Canada or another country to their registration.
