Import goods? Post financial security with CBSA

As part of the Canada Border Services Agency’s (CBSA) Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) project to modernize and streamline the process of importing commercial goods, there have been changes to the Release Prior to Payment (RPP) program. Importers are now required to post financial security themselves since they can no longer use the financial security posted by their customs brokers.

Government announces 6-month relief on Canadian tariffs for U.S. imports

On April 15, the Minister of Finance “announced that the government intends to provide temporary 6-month relief for goods imported from the U.S. that are used in Canadian manufacturing, processing and food and beverage packaging, and for those used to support public health, health care, public safety, and national security objectives.

New U.S. tariff announcement keeps things status quo for the feed industry

On April 2, President Trump signed an executive order to implement a new regime of tariffs to be applied to goods imported into the U.S. Fortunately, Canada avoided the heavy levies applied against other countries. The tariff landscape for Canadian exports remains the same except for an additional 25% tariff to be applied to Canadian-made passenger vehicles which came into effect at 12:01 on April 3.
