Since the Canadian government published the $125 billion proposed tariff list for consultation, ANAC has collected feedback from members on which list items may negatively impact feed businesses if tariffs are applied on U.S. products coming into Canada. ANAC has organized approximately 80 identified items into categories and created a summary document entitled Tariff codes impacting the feed industry.

On March 6, President Trump announced that the 25% tariffs the U.S. applied to all Canadian imports earlier in the week would be rolled back for goods included in the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). This exemption came into effect at 12:01 am on Friday March 7.

Following the implementation of 25% tariffs on $30 billion of U.S. goods, the Canadian government intends to impose a 25% tariff on an additional $125 billion worth of goods, if the U.S. does not remove the tariffs applied to Canadian goods.

The government is also taking steps to mitigate the impact of the Canadian-imposed tariffs on workers and businesses by establishing a remission process to consider requests for exceptional relief from the tariffs.

Please note that the $30 billion list has been re-released although there are no changes from the original list published on February 2.

After a month’s reprieve, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian products effective today, March 4.
