With the implementation of the final phase of the Feeds Regulations, 2024 on December 17, additional species are defined as livestock and are subject to regulatory requirements. Feeds for all livestock species must only be composed of single ingredient feeds listed in the Canadian Feed Ingredients Table (CFIT).

With the new feed licensing requirement coming into effect on December 17, 2025, the CFIA is working to launch their online licensing platform soon. Once this platform is open, the CFIA will publish further guidance to assist industry in planning, applying for and managing their feed licenses.

ANAC is pleased to share that, based on feedback provided on behalf of members, the CFIA has revised their position and will permit the term “robot” to form part of feed names.

Following ANAC’s advocacy on behalf of members, the CFIA has published a clarification to their RG-12 Labelling of livestock feeds guidance section 5.4 Directions for use.

Under phase 1 obligations, companies placing plastic packaging on the Canadian marketplace destined for disposal in the residential waste stream are required to report to the Federal Plastics Registry by September 29, 2025 with 2024 data.

In July, the federal government launched a red tape review in order to eliminate inefficiencies and unnecessary regulatory burden. Government departments and agencies have now released their reports.

It has recently come to ANAC’s attention that during CFIA inspections, facilities have been receiving Corrective Action Requests (CARs) for their directions for use on labels for premixes intended for use by feed manufacturers.
