The CFIA has published the guidance document How to request a livestock feeds licence to assist industry in planning, applying for and managing their feed licences in My CFIA.

The CFIA has launched their feed licensing platform within My CFIA. You may now access the platform to pre-emptively apply for your feed licence(s), though they will not be issued until the licensing provisions under the Feeds Regulations, 2024 come into force on December 17, 2025.

ANAC will be holding a Feed Licensing Webinar to provide members with further insight into key considerations for developing your business’s feed licensing approach. Incorporating lessons learned from the food licensing space, we encourage members to attend this webinar before submitting their feed licence application(s).

The CFIA has published minor updates to their Medication sequencing guideline for management of drug carryover.

With the implementation of the final phase of the Feeds Regulations, 2024 on December 17, additional species are defined as livestock and are subject to regulatory requirements. Feeds for all livestock species must only be composed of single ingredient feeds listed in the Canadian Feed Ingredients Table (CFIT).

With the new feed licensing requirement coming into effect on December 17, 2025, the CFIA is working to launch their online licensing platform soon. Once this platform is open, the CFIA will publish further guidance to assist industry in planning, applying for and managing their feed licenses.

ANAC is pleased to share that, based on feedback provided on behalf of members, the CFIA has revised their position and will permit the term “robot” to form part of feed names.

Following ANAC’s advocacy on behalf of members, the CFIA has published a clarification to their RG-12 Labelling of livestock feeds guidance section 5.4 Directions for use.
