Registration of exporting establishments – Brazil

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has been informed that, as of July 8, 2025, all Canadian establishments that handle, fractionate, group, prepare or package products intended for animal feed including pet food and wish to export these products to Brazil must be registered with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA).

Consultation on international standards for phytosanitary measures

Each year, the Internation Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) conducts consultations on draft international standards for phytosanitary measures (ISPMs), specifications to ISPMs and implementation and capacity development documents (e.g. guides). Industry is welcome to provide comments directly to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) who is responsible for obtaining and submitting comments to IPPC on behalf of Canada.

ANAC joins the Canada-EU dialogue on sustainable agriculture

ANAC was pleased to take part in a high-level discussion on how environmental standards harmonization and supply chain diversification via the Canada-European Union (EU) Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) Agri-Food Partnership can build a more resilient and competitive agricultural sector. The discussion, organized by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), involved representatives from across the Canadian agriculture sector and a European delegation touring the country to gain insights into the Canadian context.

Use US and EU approvals to support applications for approval and registration in Canada

The CFIA has published guidance on the pre-market evaluation requirements for the approval or registration of livestock feeds based on the acceptance of foreign approvals or authorizations. ANAC encourages its members to use this new policy, when applicable, and share their experience with Erin Ross (eross@anacan.org).

Call for nominations: ICCF Working Group on Effectiveness Assessment – Nutritional Effect

The International Cooperation for Convergence of Technical Requirements for the Assessment of Feed Ingredients (ICCF) is launching its next working group in a series tasked with developing guidance in the area of effectiveness assessment.

ANAC is seeking nominations for a Canadian expert to join the expert working group (EWG) developing specific guidance related to “the nutritional effect of feed ingredients”.
