The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has published updates to Regulatory Guidance 1 (RG-1): Feed Registration Procedures and Labelling Standards to bring the guidance in alignment with the Feeds Act and the Feeds Regulations, 2024.

The CFIA updated their Feed Label Verification Tool, which is used by CFIA inspectors to verify that the nutrient levels in feeds do not surpass the maximums as per the Tables of Maximum Nutrient Values for Feeds. Equally, this resource can be used by industry to ensure a feed’s nutrient levels are compliant.

ANAC would like to ensure members are aware of the ongoing recall of contaminated lots of Copper (II) Sulfate Pentahydrate originating from China labeled as “Feed Grade”. The lots were contaminated with non-compliant concentrations of dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dl-PCBs) (collectively referred to as “dioxins”). 

Following the consultation held last summer, the updated 2026 Canadian Organic Standards have now been published.

The CFIA adjusts its service fees annually. This year’s annual adjustment resulted in a service fee increase of 2.7% which took effect March 31, 2026.

Further to the consultation held earlier this year, the livestock feeds licence fee has been published in the Notice Amending the CFIA Fees Notice and came into effect as of March 31, 2026.  

As a reminder, businesses throughout the feed value chain will begin to be inspected thoroughly on compliance to hazard analysis, preventive control and preventive control plan (PCP) requirements as of April 1.
