Industry is invited to participate in the consultation on the implementation of the Free Trade and Labour Mobility in Canada Act (Bill C-5). This new legislation is designed to remove federal barriers – specifically, duplicative regulatory requirements – and make it easier for businesses to operate across Canada.

Members are reminded that in-feed veterinary health products (VHPs) are permitted to be included in feeds that contain a medicating ingredient.

Published in June, the CFIA’s detailed guidance package on hazard analysis, preventive controls and preventive control pans (PCPs) offers an array of information and materials to assist industry in not only understanding these new regulatory requirements, but also how to implement them.

As of September 9, 2025, shipments of feed products for mink, foxes and other fur-bearing animals with animal origin ingredients must be accompanied by an animal health import permit.

Your association has been at work advocating for a more favourable regulatory environment for your business. ANAC recently submitted a letter to Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Heath MacDonald identifying and urging the implementation of a series of measures to reduce inefficient red tape and onerous administrative burden on the livestock feed industry and its primary regulator, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

The Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) launched a public comment period on proposed modifications to the Canadian Organic Standards. The consultation includes proposed changes to two national standards that must be met by certified organic products, including livestock feed.

As a benefit of ANAC membership, your association is here to assist you with inspection challenges you face in the field. Should you encounter difficulty during or after an inspection, such as receiving a corrective action request (CAR) that you feel is not supported by the regulations, ANAC can support by providing guidance and, if needed, advocacy on your behalf.

The Competition Bureau has released its final guidelines on environmental claims, designed to assist businesses in complying with greenwashing provisions added to the Competition Act in June 2024.
