The CFIA released several updates to the Compendium of Medicated Ingredient Brochures (CMIB) in the month of March. These updates are detailed in the post.

The CFIA shared two What We Heard Reports summarizing the latest changes made to the proposed Canadian Feed Ingredients Table (CFIT) and Tables of Permissible Claims for Feed Labels.

30-day consultation period is now open for the proposed new single ingredient feed (SIF) description for dried sweet potato.

Beginning in May 2023, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) implemented a new consultation approach for livestock feed ingredients. To ensure members are kept informed of additions to the CFIT, ANAC has created a new feature in The Feed (ANAC’s bi-weekly newsletter). This new section entitled Ingredient Description Updates will provide links to CFIA’s recently published What We Heard Reports on SIF descriptions.

A 30-day consultation period is now open for the following single ingredient feed (SIF) descriptions. Please submit any comments on these SIF definitions directly to the Animal Feed Program (cfia.afp-paa.acia@inspection.gc.ca) by March 22, 2024.

A 30-day consultation period is now open for 5 new viable microorganism descriptions.

A 30-day consultation period is now open for the proposed new single ingredient feed (SIF) description for 3-nitrooxypropanol (3-NOP). Please submit any comments on this SIF definition directly to the Animal Feed Program (cfia.afp-paa.acia@inspection.gc.ca) by December 16, 2023.

Since the proposed Tables of Maximum Nutrient Values for Feeds were published for consultation, ANAC has been working with the CFIA to resolve nutrient maximums that were too low and would not support current industry practices. Most of these nutrient maximum levels were resolved quickly, however four remained outstanding as discussions continued between industry, CFIA and Health Canada. Those final four nutrient maximums have now been resolved.
