This national biosecurity guide represents best practices specific to the feed industry which can be used both within a company and in conjunction with suppliers and customers to limit the introduction and spread of animal diseases, pests and pathogens. The National Biosecurity Guide for the Livestock and Poultry Sector was developed by ANAC in collaboration with an advisory committee representing a broad range of feed industry stakeholders.
The recommendations in this guide apply to all feed businesses and all functions within a company including sales staff, nutritionists, manufacturing and purchasing personnel and others. Feed companies are encouraged to review the guide and consider any potential gaps or opportunities to increase the robustness of their biosecurity program as well as share the guide with other feed industry contacts.

International biosecurity guidance for feed mills
The International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF) has developed a document, Biosecurity Guidance for Feed Mills, to support feed mills around the world in establishing and maintaining robust biosecurity plans. This guidance is the result of a collaborative project undertaken by various regional and national associations, including ANAC.
As IFIF’s guidance document was developed to meet the needs of feed mills across the globe, it is important to note that some listed procedures may not apply in the Canadian context. This international resource should be used in conjunction with ANAC’s National Biosecurity Guide for the Livestock and Poultry Feed Sector to further enhance your biosecurity program.
