New CMIB to be published April 1, 2018

February 28, 2018

The CFIA has been working on a new Compendium of Medicating Ingredient Brochures (CMIB) which will align with Health Canada’s (HC) December 1, 2018 policy changes relating to Medically Important Antimicrobials (MIA). Recall that MIAs will be moving from the over-the-counter drug list to the prescription drug list and growth promotion claims will be removed. The new CMIB will have a different look than the current version and all approved in-feed medications, whether over-the-counter or prescription, will be included.

The new CMIB will be published on April 1, 2018; however, the policy changes for MIAs only take effect on December 1, 2018. During the transition period, both CMIBs (the current version as well as the new version published April 1) will be valid.
