ANAC is a proud board member of the Global Feed LCA Institute (GFLI), a feed industry initiative working in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the FAO led-Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance Partnership (LEAP). This project supports the feed industry's environmental stewardship practices by providing thorough and consistent global life cycle analysis (LCA) metrics for sustainable feed production.
GFLI’s current workplan includes two parts:
- A public LCA database with high quality data covering cultivation, processing and logistics for feed ingredients; (as a module to support environmental assessment of livestock products).
- A feed LCA tool, primarily destined for use by feed companies, to enable the identification of environmental hotspots, training and education needs. The tool will be based on Feedprint, a tool developed in the Netherlands to quantify greenhouse gas emissions of feed production and utilization
The USA/Canada Project Steering Group is expected to have data ready to deliver to GFLI by the end of 2017. For more information on GFLI, please visit the newly launched website at http://globalfeedlca.org.
